Surah 5. Al-Maida, Ayah 38
| وَالسَّارِقُ وَالسَّارِقَةُ فَاقْطَعُوا أَيْدِيَهُمَا جَزَاءً بِمَا كَسَبَا نَكَالًا مِنَ اللَّهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ |
| Transliteration | : | yaa 'ayyuhaa 'alladhena 'aamano ittaqo 'allaah wa- ibtagho 'ilay -hi al- waselah wa- jaahido fe sabel -hi lacalla -kum tuflih.on |
| Pickthall | : | As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. It is the reward of their own deeds, an exemplary punishment from Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise. |
| Asad | : | NOW AS FOR the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off the hand of either of them in requital for what they have wrought, as a deterrent ordained by God:48 for God is almighty, wise. |
| Malik | : | Male or female, whoever is guilty of theft, cut off the hand (that was used in theft) of either of them as a punishment for their crime. This is exemplary punishment ordained by Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise. |
| Yusuf Ali | : | As to the thief male or female cut off his or her hands: a punishment by way of example from Allah for their crime: and Allah is Exalted in Power. 742 |
