Surah 5. Al-Maida, Ayah 71
| وَحَسِبُوا أَلَّا تَكُونَ فِتْنَةٌ فَعَمُوا وَصَمُّوا ثُمَّ تَابَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ ثُمَّ عَمُوا وَصَمُّوا كَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بَصِيرٌ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ |
| Transliteration | : | qul yaa 'ahl al- kitaab lastum calaa shay' h.attaa tuqemo at- tawraah wa- al- 'injel wa- maa unzila 'ilay -kum min rabb -kum wa- la- yazedanna kather(an) min -hum maa unzila 'ilay -ka min rabb -ka t.ughyaan(an) wa- kufr(an) fa- laa ta'sa calaa al- qawm al- kaafiren |
| Pickthall | : | They thought no harm would come of it, so they were willfully blind and deaf. And afterward Allah turned (in mercy) toward them. Now (even after that) are many of them willfully blind and deaf. Allah is Seer of what they do. |
| Asad | : | thinking that no harm would befall them; and so they became blind and deaf [of heart]. Thereafter God accepted their repentance: and again many of them became blind and deaf. But God sees all that they do. |
| Malik | : | They thought no affliction would follow; so they acted blind and deaf. Yet Allah, in extreme mercy, accepted their repentance, but again many acted blind and deaf towards the message of Allah. Allah is observant of their actions. |
| Yusuf Ali | : | They thought there would be no trial (or punishment); so they became blind and deaf: yet Allah (in mercy) turned to them: yet again many of them became blind and deaf. But Allah sees well all that they do. 781 |
