Surah 7. Al-A'raf, Ayah 151



قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِأَخِي وَأَدْخِلْنَا فِي رَحْمَتِكَ ۖ وَأَنْتَ أَرْحَمُ الرَّاحِمِينَ


Transliteration : qaala rabb -i ighfir li- -y wa- li- 'akh -e wa- adkhil -naa fe rah.mah -ka wa- 'anta arh.am ar- raah.imen
Pickthall : He said: My Lord! Have mercy on me and on my brother; bring us into Thy mercy, Thou the Most Merciful of all who show mercy.
Asad : Said [Moses]: "O my Sustainer! Grant Thou forgiveness unto me118 and my brother, and admit us unto Thy grace: for Thou art the most merciful of the merciful!"
Malik : At this Musa said: "O Rabb! Forgive me and my brother! And admit us to Your mercy, for You are the Most Merciful of all."
Yusuf Ali : Moses prayed: "O my Lord! forgive me and my brother! admit us to Thy mercy! for Thou art the Most Merciful of those who sow mercy!" 1119

Yusuf Ali 1119 As Moses was convinced that his brother was guiltless, his wrath was turned to gentleness. He prayed for forgiveness-for himself and his brother: for himself because of his wrath and for his brother because he had been unable to suppress idolatry among his people. And like a true leader that he is, he identifies himself with his lieutenant for all that has happened. Even more, he identifies himself with his whole people in his prayer in verse 155 below. Herein, again, is a type of what the Holy Prophet Muhammad did for his people.
