أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ


Asad : ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad,5
Khattab :

Did you not see how your Lord dealt with ’Ȃd—

Malik : Have you not seen how your Rabb dealt with 'Ad?
Pickthall : Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) Aad,
Yusuf Ali : Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the `Ad (people) 6113
Transliteration : Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAadin

Asad 5 See {7:65-72}, and particularly the second half of note [48] on 7:65. Iram, mentioned in the next verse, seems to have been the name of their legendary capital, now covered by the sands of the desert of Al-Ahqaf.

Yusuf Ali 6113 For the 'Ad see n. 1040 to vii. 65. They seem to have possessed an ancient civilisation, which succumbed when they persistently broke Allah's law.
