(The narrator A'mash has narrated this hadith with a little doubt(about the name of the very first narrator who was in directcontact with the Holy Prophet. He was either AbuHurayrah orAbuSa'id al-Khudri. Both are equally reliable transmitters of thetraditions). He (the narrator) said: During the time of the Tabukexpedition, the (provisions) ran short and the men (of the army)suffered from starvation. They said: Messenger of Allah, willyou permit us to slay our camels? We shall eat them and use theirfat. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Do as youplease. He (the narrator) said: Then Umar came there and said:Messenger of Allah, if you do that (if you give your consent andthe men begin to slay their camels), we shall be short ofriding-animals. But (I should suggest that you) summon them tobring their remaining provisions. Then invoke Allah's blessingson them (different items of the provisions). It is hoped Allahwill bless them. The Messenger of Allah replied in theaffirmative. He (the narrator) said: He called for a leather matto be used as a table-cloth and spread it out. Then he called thepeople to bring the remaining portions of their provisions. He(the narrator said: Someone was coming with a handful of mote, another was coming with a handful of dates, still another wascoming with a portion of bread, until small quantities of thesethings were collected on the table cloth. He (the narratorsaid): Then the Messenger of Allah, invoked blessing (on them)and said: Fill your utensils with these provisions. He (thenarrator) said: They filled their vessels to the brim with them, and no one amongst the army (which comprised 30,000 people) wasleft even with a single empty vessel. He (the narrator) said:They ate their fill, and there was still a surplus. Upon thisthe Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) remarked: I beartestimony that there is no god but Allah and I am the Messengerof Allah. The man who meets his Lord without harbouring any doubtabout these two (truths) will never be kept away from Paradise.
This verse was revealed about us, the Banu Salimah: "Nor calleach other by (offensive) nicknames: ill-seeming is a nameconnoting wickedness (to be used of one) after he has believed."He said: When the apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) came tous, every one of us had two or three names. The Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) began to say: O so and so! But they wouldsay: Keep silence, Apostle of Allah! He becomes angry by thisname. So this verse was revealed: "Nor call each other by(offensive nicknames."
I saw Allah's Messenger (may peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) as a fair-skinned man who had become grey-haired. Al-Hasan ibn Ali resembled him. He ordered that thirteen young she-camels should be given us and we went to receive them, but news of his death reached us before they had given us anything. Then when AbuBakr became caliph he said, "If anyone has received a promise from Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) let him come." So I got up, went to him and told him, and he ordered that they be given us.

I asked: You are the Apostleof Allah (may peace be upon you)? He said: I am the Apostle ofAllah Whom you call when a calamity befalls you and He removesit; when you suffer from drought and you call Him, He grows foodfor you; and when you are in a desolate land or in a desert andyour she-camel strays and you call Him, He returns it to you. Have your lower garment halfway down yourshin; if you cannot do it, have it up to the ankles. Beware oftrailing the lower garment, for it is conceit and Allah does notlike conceit. And if a man abuses and shames you for somethingwhich he finds in you, then do not shame him for something whichyou find in him; he will bear the evil consequences for it.

Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said, "There are three things which I swear to be true, and I shall tell you something else, so keep it in mind. The three things which I swear to be true are that a man's property does not become less on account of sadaqah; that when a man is wronged and bears it patiently Allah will give him greater honour on that account; and that when a man opens a door towards begging Allah opens for him a door towards poverty. The thing I am going to tell you which you must keep in mind is this. The world has only four types of people: 1) A man whom Allah provides with property and knowledge, in which he fears his Lord and joins ties of relationship, acting in it towards Allah as is due to Him, this man being in the most excellent station. 2) A man whom Allah provides with knowledge but not with property, who says with a sincere intention that if he had property he would act as so and so does, their reward being equal. 3) A man whom Allah provides with property but not with knowledge, in which he acts in a random manner ignorantly, not fearing his Lord respecting it, or using it to join ties of relationship, or dealing with it in a right way, this man being in the worst station. 4) A man whom Allah provides with neither property nor knowledge, who says that if he had property he would deal with it as so and so does and has this intention, the load they have to bear being equal."
