Hunaydah al-Khuza'i reported on the authority of her mother whosaid: I entered upon Umm Salamah and asked her about fasting. Shesaid: The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) used to command meto fast three days every month beginning with Monday or Thursday.
She never saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) fasting the wholemonth except Sha'ban which he combined with Ramadan.
Umm Hakim, daughter of Usayd, reported on the authority of hermother that her husband died and she was suffering from soreeyes. She therefore applied collyrium (jala'). Ahmad said: Thecorrect version is "glittering collyrium (kuhl al-jala'). Shesent her slave-girl to Umm Salamah, and she asked her about theuse of glittering collyrium (kuhl al-jala'). She said: Do notapply it except in the case of dire need which is troubling you.In that case you can use it at night, but you should remove it inthe daytime. Then Umm Salamah said: The Apostle of Allah (peacebe upon him) came to visit me when AbuSalamah died, and I had putthe juice of aloes in my eye. He asked : What is this, UmmSalamah? I replied: It is only the juice of aloes and containsno perfume. He said: It gives the face a glow, so apply it onlyat night and remove it in daytime, and do not comb yourself withscent or henna, for it is a dye. I asked: What should I use whenI comb myself, Apostle of Allah? He said: Use lote-tree leavesand smear your head copiously with them.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: A woman whose husband hasdied must not wear clothes dyed with safflower (usfur) or withred ochre (mishq) and ornaments. She must not apply henna andcollyrium.
The night which the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) passedwith me was the one that followed the day of sacrifice. He cameto me and Wahb ibn Zam'ah also visited me. A man belonging to thelineage of AbuUmayyah accompanied him. Both of them were wearingshirts. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said to Wahb:Did you perform the obligatory circumambulation (Tawafaz-Ziyarah), AbuAbdullah? He said: No, by Allah Apostle ofAllah.He (the Prophet) said: Take off your shirt. He then tookit off over his head, and his companion too took his shirt offover his head.He then asked: And why (this), Apostle of Allah? He replied: On this day you have been allowed to take off ihramwhen you have thrown the stones at the jamrahs, that is,everything prohibited during the state of ihram is lawful exceptintercourse with a woman. If the evening comes before you goround this House (the Ka'bah) you will remain in the sacred state(i.e. ihram), just like the state in which you were before youthrew stones at the jamrahs, until you perform thecircumambulation of it (i.e. the Ka'bah).
She heard the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) say: If anyoneputs on ihram for hajj or umrah from the Aqsa mosque to thesacred mosque , his former and latter sins will be forgiven, orhe will be guaranteed Paradise. The narrator Abdullah doubtedwhich of these words he said.
I used to wear gold ornaments. I asked: Is that a treasure(kanz), Apostle of Allah? He replied: whatever reaches a quantityon which zakat is payable is not a treasure (kanz) when the zakatis paid.
Ya'la ibn Mumallak said that he asked Umm Salamah about therecitation and prayer of the Apostle of Allah (peace be uponhim). She said: What have you to do with his prayer? He wouldpray, then sleep as long as he had prayed, till morning. She thendescribed his recitation and did so with an exposition word byword.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) taught me to say whenthe adhan for the sunset prayer was called; "O Allah, this is thetime when Thy night comes on, Thy day retires, and the voices ofThy summoners are heard, so forgive me."
The slave-mother of Ibrahim ibn AbdurRahman ibn Awf asked UmmSalamah, the wife of the Prophet (peace be upon him): I am awoman having a long border of clothe and I walk in filthy place;(then what should I do?). Umm Salamah replied: The Apostle ofAllah ( peace be upon him) said: What comes after it cleanses it.
Al-Hasan reported on the authority of his mother that she was UmmSalamah pouring water on the urine of the male child until theage when he did not eat food. When he began to eat food, shewould wash (his urine). And she would wash the urine of thefemale child.
Bakkar ibn Yahya said that his grandmother narrated to him: Ientered upon Umm Salamah. A woman from the Quraysh asked herabout praying with the clothes which a woman wore while shemenstruated. Umm Salamah said: We would menstruate in thelifetime of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him). Then eachone of us refrained (from prayer) during menstrual period. Whenshe was purified, she would look at the clothe in which shemenstruated. If it were smeared with blood, we would wash it andpray with it; if there were nothing in it, we would leave it andthat would not prevent us from praying with it (the same clothe).As regards the woman who had plaited hair - sometimes each of ushad plaited hair - when she washed, she would not undo the hair.She would instead pour three handfuls of water upon her head.When she felt moisture in the roots of her hair, she would rubthem. Then she would pour water upon her whole body.
The woman having bleeding after delivery (puerperal haemorrhage)would refrain (from prayer) for forty days or forty nights; andwe would anoint our faces with an aromatic herb called wars toremove dark spots.
In the time of the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) there wasa woman who had an issue of blood. So Umm Salamah asked theApostle of Allah (peace be upon him) to give a decision abouther. He said: She should consider the number of nights and daysduring which she used to menstruate each month before she wasafflicted with this trouble and abandon prayer during that periodeach month. When those days and nights are over, she should takea bath, tie a cloth over her private parts and pray.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade every intoxicantand everything which produces languidness.
Kabshah, daughter of AbuMaryam, asked Umm Salamah (Allah bepleased with her): What did the Prophet (peace be upon him)prohibit? She replied: He forbade us to boil dates so much sothat the kernels are spoiled, and to mix raisins and dried dates.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) said to us: If one ofyou has a slave, and he enters into an agreement to purchase hisfreedom, and can pay the full price, she must veil herself fromhim.
Safinah said: I was a slave of Umm Salamah, and she said: I shallemancipate you, but I stipulate that you must serve the Apostleof Allah (peace be upon him) as long as you live. I said: Even ifyou do not make a stipulation, I shall not leave the Apostle ofAllah (peace be upon him). She then emancipated me and made thestipulation with me.
Shahr ibn Hawshab said: I asked Umm Salamah: How did the Apostleof Allah (peace be upon him) read this verse: "For his conductis unrighteous (innahu 'amalunghayru salih". She replied: Heread it: "He acted unrighteously" (innahu 'amila ghayra salih).
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) used to recite: "In thename of Allah, the Cherisher and Sustainer of the worlds; mostGracious, most Merciful; Master of the Day of Judgment," breakingits recitation into verses, one after another.
The clothing which the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) likedbest was shirt.
No clothing was dearer to be Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)than shirt.
When the verse "That they should cast their outer garments overtheir persons" was revealed, the women of Ansar came out as ifthey had crows over their heads by wearing outer garments.
I was with the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) whileMaymunah was with him. Then Ibn Umm Maktum came. This happenedwhen we were ordered to observe veil (purdah). The Prophet (peacebe upon him) said: Observe veil from him. We asked: Apostle ofAllah! is he not blind? He can neither see us nor recognise us.The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Are both of you blind? Doyou not see him? AbuDawud said: This was peculiar to the wives ofthe Prophet (peace be upon him). Do you not see that Fatimahdaughter of Qays passed her waiting period with Ibn Umm Maktum.The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to Fatimah daughter of Qays:Pass your waiting period with Ibn Umm Maktum, for he is a blindman. You can put off your clothes with him.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to visit her when she wasveiled, and said: use one fold and not two.
Safiyyah, daughter of AbuUbayd, said: When the Apostle of Allah(peace be upon him) mentioned lower garment, Umm Salamah, wife ofthe Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him), asked him: And a woman,Apostle of Allah? He replied: She may hang down a span. UmmSalamah said: Still it (foot) will be uncovered. He said: Then aforearm's length, nor exceeding it.
Her bedding was in front of the place of prayer of the Prophet(peace be upon him).
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: The Mahdi will be of myfamily, of the descendants of Fatimah. Abdullah ibn Ja'far said:I heard AbulMalih praising Ali ibn Nufayl and describing his goodqualities.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Disagreement will occur atthe death of a caliph and a man of the people of Medina will comeflying forth to Mecca. Some of the people of Mecca will come tohim, bring him out against his will and swear allegiance to himbetween the Corner and the Maqam. An expeditionary force willthen be sent against him from Syria but will be swallowed up inthe desert between Mecca and Medina. When the people see that,the eminent saints of Syria and the best people of Iraq will cometo him and swear allegiance to him between the Corner and theMaqam.Then there will arise a man of Quraysh whose maternaluncles belong to Kalb and send against them an expeditionaryforce which will be overcome by them, and that is the expeditionof Kalb. Disappointed will be the one who does not receive thebooty of Kalb. He will divide the property, and will govern thepeople by the Sunnah of their Prophet (peace be upon him) andestablish Islam on Earth. He will remain seven years, then die,and the Muslims will pray over him.
Some relative of Umm Salamah said: The bed of the Prophet (peacebe upon him) was set as a man is laid in his grave; the mosquewas towards his head.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) never went out of myhouse without raising his eye to the sky and saying: "O Allah! Iseek refuge in Thee lest I stray or be led astray, or slip ormade to slip, or cause injustice, or suffer injustice, or dowrong, or have wrong done to me."
I heard Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: The peoplewould run away from the Dajjal seeking shelter in the mountains.She said: Where would be the Arabs then on the day? He said: Theywould be small in number.
Umm Sulaym asked the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) about awoman who sees in a dream what a man sees (sexual dream). TheMessenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: In case a woman seesthat, she must take a bath. Umm Sulaym said: I was bashful onaccount of that and said: Does it happen? Upon this the Apostle(peace be upon him) said: Yes (it does happen), otherwise how can( a child) resemble her? Man's discharge (i.e. sperm) is thickand white and the discharge of woman is thin and yellow ; so theresemblance comes from the one whose genes prevail or dominate.
Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) visited her house and (tookrest) and she spread a piece of cloth for him and he had a siestaon it. And he sweated profusely and she collected his sweat andput it in a perfume and in bottles. Allah's Apostle (peace beupon him) said: Umm Sulaym, what is this? She said: It is yoursweat, which I put in my perfume. Allah's Apostle (peace be uponhim) sweated in cold weather when revelation descended upon him.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) visited my house and while standing drank water from a hanging waterskin through its mouthpiece. I stood up and cut off the mouthpiece of the waterskin to preserve it (as a blessed piece of memento).

Habib al-Ansari reported: I heard Abbad ibn Tamim who reported onthe authority of my grandmother, Umm Umarah, saying: The Prophet(peace be upon him) wanted to perform ablution. A vesselcontaining 2/3 mudd of water was brought to him.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) visited Umm Umarah and she put some food before him. He asked her to eat also. She said: I am fasting. Thereupon he observed: Angels call down blessings on a person who is fasting when other people eat in his presence till they finish (or till they have eaten their fill.

Once when the Prophet (peace be upon him) visited her and she called for food for him, he told her that she must eat also; but when she replied that she was fasting he said, "When people eat beside one who is fasting the angels invoke blessings on him till they finish eating."
Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and Darimi transmitted it.
When the Prophet (peace be upon him) proceeded for the Battle ofBadr, I said to him: Apostle of Allah allow me to accompany youin the battle. I shall act as a nurse for patients. It ispossible that Allah might bestow martyrdom upon me. He said: Stayat your home. Allah, the Almighty , will bestow martyrdom uponyou. The narrator said: Hence she was called martyr. She read theQur'an. She sought permission from the Prophet (peace be uponhim) to have a mu'adhdhin in her house. He, therefore, permittedher (to do so). She announced that her slave and slave-girl wouldbe free after her death. One night they went to her and strangledher with a sheet of cloth until she died, and they ran away. Nextday Umar announced among the people, "Anyone who has knowledgeabout them, or has seen them, should bring them (to him)." Umar(after their arrest) ordered (to crucify them) and they werecrucified. This was the first crucifixion at Medina.
Hashraj ibn Ziyad reported on the authority of his grandmotherthat she went out with the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)for the battle of Khaybar. They were six in number includingherself. (She said): When the Apostle of Allah (peace be uponhim) was informed about it, he sent for us. We came to him, andfound him angry. He said: With whom did you come out, and bywhose permission did you come out? We said: Apostle of Allah, wehave come out to spin the hair, by which we provide aid in thecause of Allah. We have medicine for the wounded, we hand arrows(to the fighters), and supply drink made of wheat or barley. Hesaid: Stand up. When Allah bestowed victory of Khaybar on him, heallotted shares to us from spoils that he allotted to the men. He (Hashraj ibn Ziyad) said: I said to her: Grandmother, what wasthat? She replied: Dates.
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) visited me while I wassick. He said: Be glad, Umm al-Ala' for Allah removes the sins ofa Muslim for his illness as fire removes the dross of gold andsilver.
A bedouin came to Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) when he wasin my house and said: Allah's Apostle, I have had a wife and Imarried another besides her, and my first wife claimed that shehad suckled once or twice my newly married wife, thereuponAllah's Apostle (peace be upon him) said: One suckling or two donot make the (marriage) unlawful.
Umm al-Fadl went in to see Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) and said, "Messenger of Allah, I had an objectionable dream last night." He asked what it was and she replied, "It was terrible." He asked, "But what was it?" She replied, "I seemed to see a piece of your body cut off and placed in my lap." He said, "You have seen something good. If Allah wills Fatimah will give birth to a son who will be in your lap." Fatimah then gave birth to al-Husayn who was placed in her lap as Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) had said. One day she went in to see Allah's messenger and placed him in his lap. She turned round, and noticing tears falling from the eyes of Allah's Messenger, she said, "Prophet of Allah, for whom I would give my father and mother as ransom, what is the matter with you?" He replied, "Gabriel came to me and informed me that my people will kill this son of mine." She asked if he really meant this one and he replied, "Yes, and he brought me a piece of red earth."
Bayhaqi transmitted it in Dala'il an-Nubuwwah.
I performed Hajj along with Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him)on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage and saw him when heflung pebbles at Jamrat al-Aqabah and returned while he wasriding the camel, and Bilal and Usamah were with him. One of themwas leading his camel, while the other was raising his cloth overthe head of Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) to protect himfrom the sun. She (further) said: Allah's Messenger (peace beupon him) said so many things, and I heard him saying: If a slavehaving some limb of his missing and having dark complexion isappointed to govern you according to the Book of Allah theExalted, listen to him and obey him.
Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) invoked blessing on theoccasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage three times for those who gottheir heads shaved and once for those who got their hair clipped.In the narration transmitted by Waki' there is no mention of theFarewell Pilgrimage.
It has been narrated on the authority of Yahya ibn Husayn wholearnt the tradition from his grandmother. She said that sheheard the Prophet (peace be upon him) delivering his sermon onthe occasion of the last Pilgrimage. He was saying: If a slave isappointed over you and he conducts your affairs according to theBook of Allah, you should listen to him and obey (his orders).
The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) came to visit me,accompanied by Ali who was convalescing. We had some ripe dateshung up. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him) got up andbegan to eat from them. Ali also got up to eat, but the Apostleof Allah (peace be upon him) said repeatedly to Ali: Stop, Ali,for you are convalescing, and Ali stopped. She said: I thenprepared some barley and beer-root and brought it. The Apostleof Allah (peace be upon him) then said: Take some of this, Ali,for it will be more beneficial for you. AbuDawud said: Thenarrator Harun said: al-Adawiyyah (i.e. Umm al-Mundhar).
Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) came in to visit me, accompanied by Ali, when we had some ripening dates hung up. He began to eat, and Ali along with him, but Allah's Messenger said to Ali, "Stop, Ali, for you are convalescing." I then prepared some beetroot and barley for them and the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Take some of this, Ali, for it will be more beneficial for you."
Ahmad, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) bought a horse from a Bedouin.The Prophet (peace be upon him) took him with him to pay him theprice of his horse. The Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)walked quickly and the Bedouin walked slowly. The people stoppedthe Bedouin and began to bargain with him for the horse as andthey did not know that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had boughtit. The Bedouin called the Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)saying: If you want this horse, (then buy it), otherwise I shallsell it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) stopped when he heardthe call of the Bedouin, and said: Have I not bought it from you? The Bedouin said: I swear by Allah, I have not sold it to you. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Yes, I have bought it fromyou. The Bedouin began to say: Bring a witness. Khuzaymah ibnThabit then said: I bear witness that you have bought it. TheProphet (peace be upon him) turned to Khuzaymah and said: On what(grounds) do you bear witness?He said: By considering youtrustworthy, Apostle of Allah (peace be upon him)! The Prophet(peace be upon him) made the witness of Khuzaymah equivalent tothe witness of two people.
I offered the 'Asr prayer behind the Prophet at Medina. When he had finished the prayer with Taslim, he got up hurriedly and went out by crossing the rows of the people to one of the dwellings of his wives. The people got scared at his speed. The Prophet came back and found the people surprised at his haste and said to them, "I remembered a piece of gold lying in my house and I did not like it to divert my attention from Allah's worship, so I have ordered it to be distributed (in charity)."
One day the Prophet went out and offered the (funeral) prayer for the people (i.e. martyrs) of Uhud as he used to offer a funeral prayer for any dead person, and then (after returning) he ascended the pulpit and said, "I am your predecessor before you, and I am a witness upon you, and I am looking at my Tank just now, and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the world (or the keys of the world). By Allah, I am not afraid that you will worship others besides Allah after me, but I am afraid that you will compete with each other for (the pleasures of) this world."
The Prophet said: "The stipulations most entitled to be abided by are those with which you are given the right to enjoy the (women's) private parts (i.e. the stipulations of the marriage contract)."
I offered the 'Asr prayer with the Prophet and after finishing the prayer with Taslim he got up quickly and went to some of his wives and then came out. He noticed the signs of astonishment on the faces of the people caused by his speed. He then said, "I remembered while I was in my prayer that a piece of gold was lying in my house and I disliked that it should remain with us throughout the night, and so I have ordered it to be distributed."
Once the Prophet offered the 'Asr prayer and then hurriedly went to his house and returned immediately. I (or somebody else) asked him (as to what was the matter) and he said, "I left at home a piece of gold which was from the charity and I disliked to let it remain a night in my house, so I got it distributed."
When An-Nuaman or his son was brought in a state of drunkenness, Allah's Apostle ordered all those who were present in the house to beat him. I was one of those who beat him. We beat him with shoes and palm-leaf stalks.
That he had married Um Yahya bint Abu Ihab. He said. "A black slave-lady came and said, 'I suckled you both.' I then mentioned that to the Prophet who turned his face aside." Uqba further said, "I went to the other side and told the Prophet about it. He said, 'How can you (keep her as your wife) when the lady has said that she suckled both of you (i.e. you and your wife?)" So, the Prophet ordered him to divorce her.
I married a woman and later on a woman came and said, "I suckled you both." So, I went to the Prophet (to ask him about it). He said, "How can you (keep her as a wife) when it has been said (that you were foster brother and sister)? Leave (divorce) her."
(Once) Abu Bakr offered the 'Asr prayer and then went out walking and saw Al-Hasan playing with the boys. He lifted him on to his shoulders and said, " Let my parents be sacrificed for your sake! (You) resemble the Prophet and not 'Ali," while 'Ali was smiling.
I saw Abu Bakr carrying Al-Hasan and saying, "Let my father be sacrificed for you; you resemble the Prophet and not 'Ali," while 'Ali was laughing at this.
I married a woman and then a black lady came to us and said, "I have suckled you both (you and your wife)." So I came to the Prophet and said, "I married so-and-so and then a black lady came to us and said to me, 'I have suckled both of you.' But I think she is a liar." The Prophet turned his face away from me and I moved to face his face, and said, "She is a liar." The Prophet said, "How (can you keep her as your wife) when that lady has said that she has suckled both of you? So abandon (i.e., divorce) her (your wife)."
Once the Prophet offered the 'Asr prayer and then he walked quickly and entered his house.
An-Nu'man or the son of An-Nu'man was brought to the Prophet on a charge of drunkenness. So the Prophet ordered all the men present in the house, to beat him. So all of them beat him, and I was also one of them who beat him with shoes.
An-Nu'man or the son of An-Nu'man was brought to the Prophet in a state of intoxication. The Prophet felt it hard (was angry) and ordered all those who were present in the house, to beat him. And they beat him, using palm-leaf stalks and shoes, and I was among those who beat him.
The Prophet was given a silken Farruj as a present. He wore it while praying. When he had finished his prayer, he took it off violently as if with a strong aversion to it and said, "It is not the dress of Allah-fearing pious people."
One day the Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayers of the martyrs of Uhud and then went up the pulpit and said, "I will pave the way for you as your predecessor and will be a witness on you. By Allah! I see my Fount (Kauthar) just now and I have been given the keys of all the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that you will worship others along with Allah after my death, but I am afraid that you will fight with one another for the worldly things."
My sister vowed to go on foot to the Ka'ba, and she asked me to take the verdict of the Prophet about it. So, I did and the Prophet said, "She should walk and also should ride."
that the Prophet had given him sheep to distribute among his companions and a male kid was left (after the distribution). When he informed the Prophet of it, he said (to him), "Offer it as a sacrifice on your behalf."
We said to the Prophet, "You send us out and it happens that we have to stay with such people as do not entertain us. What do you think about it? He said to us, "If you stay with some people and they entertain you as they should for a guest, accept their hospitality, but if they don't do, take the right of the guest from them."
that Allah's Apostle gave him some sheep to distribute among his companions in order to sacrifice them and a kid was left. He told the Prophet about it and the Prophet said to him, "Sacrifice it on your behalf."
Allah's Apostle said, "From among all the conditions which you have to fulfill, the conditions which make it legal for you to have sexual relations (i.e. the marriage contract) have the greatest right to be fulfilled."
Allah's Apostle offered the funeral prayers of the martyrs of Uhud eight years after (their death), as if bidding farewell to the living and the dead, then he ascended the pulpit and said, "I am your predecessor before you, and I am a witness on you, and your promised place to meet me will be Al-Haud (i.e. the Tank) (on the Day of Resurrection), and I am (now) looking at it from this place of mine. I am not afraid that you will worship others besides Allah, but I am afraid that worldly life will tempt you and Cause you to compete with each other for it." That was the last look which I cast on Allah's Apostle.
Allah's Apostle said, "Beware of entering upon the ladies." A man from the Ansar said, "Allah's Apostle! What about Al-Hamu the in-laws of the wife (the brothers of her husband or his nephews etc.)?" The Prophet replied: -The in-laws of the wife are death itself."
that the Prophet gave him some sheep to distribute among his companions to slaughter as sacrifices ('Id-al-Adha). A kid was left and he told the Prophet of that whereupon he said to him, "Slaughter it as a sacrifice (on your behalf)."
A silken Farruj was presented to Allah's Apostle and he put it on and offered the prayer in it. When he finished the prayer, he took it off violently as if he disliked it and said, "This (garment) does not befit those who fear Allah!"
We said, "O Allah's Apostle! You send us out and it happens that we have to stay with such people as do not entertain us. What do you think about it?" Allah's Apostle said to us, "If you stay with some people and they entertain you as they should for a guest, accept it; but if they do not do then you should take from them the right of the guest, which they ought to give."
The Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayer for the martyrs of the (battle of) Uhud and then ascended the pulpit and said, "I am your predecessor and I am a witness against you. By Allah, I am now looking at my Tank-lake (Al-Kauthar) and I have been given the keys of the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth). By Allah! I am not afraid that after me you will worship others besides Allah, but I am afraid that you will start competing for (the pleasures of) this world."

that the Prophet distributed among his companions some animals for sacrifice (to be slaughtered on 'Id-al-Adha). 'Uqba's share was a Jadha'a (a six month old goat). 'Uqba said, "O Allah's Apostle! I get in my share of Jadha'a (a six month old ram)." The Prophet said, "Slaughter it as a sacrifice."
