بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْبُرُوجِ

By the heaven and its constellations!

1

وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْمَوْعُودِ

By the promised Day of Judgment!

2

وَشَاهِدٍ وَمَشْهُودٍ

By the witnesses and that which is being witnessed!

3

قُتِلَ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأُخْدُودِ

Doomed be the makers of the ditch,

4

ٱلنَّارِ ذَاتِ ٱلْوَقُودِ

who lit the fuel-fed fire

5

إِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُودٌ

and sat around it,

6

وَهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَفْعَلُونَ بِٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ شُهُودٌ

to watch what they were doing to the believers.

7

وَمَا نَقَمُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّآ أَن يُؤْمِنُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْحَمِيدِ

They tortured them for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, the All-Mighty, the Praise Worthy,

8

ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ شَهِيدٌ

the One to Whom belongs the Kingdom of the heavens and earth, and Allah is Witness to all things.

9

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ فَتَنُوا۟ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنَـٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوبُوا۟ فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ ٱلْحَرِيقِ

Those who persecute the believing men and believing women and do not repent, shall receive the punishment of hell, wherein they shall have the punishment of conflagration.

10

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنَّـٰتٌ تَجْرِى مِن تَحْتِهَا ٱلْأَنْهَـٰرُ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْكَبِيرُ

As for those who believe and do good deeds, they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow; which will be the greatest success.

11

إِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيدٌ

Surely, the seizure of your Rabb is very severe.

12

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيدُ

Surely, He it is Who originates the creation of everything, and He it is Who will repeat it on the Day of Resurrection.

13

وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ

He is the Forgiving, the Loving,

14

ذُو ٱلْعَرْشِ ٱلْمَجِيدُ

the Owner of the Throne, the Glorious

15

فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيدُ

and the executor of His own will.

16

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْجُنُودِ

Have you not heard the story of the warriors

17

فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُودَ

of Fir'on (Pharaoh) and of Thamud?

18

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ فِى تَكْذِيبٍ

Yet the unbelievers persist in denying the truth,

19

وَٱللَّهُ مِن وَرَآئِهِم مُّحِيطٌۢ

although Allah has encircled them from all around.

20

بَلْ هُوَ قُرْءَانٌ مَّجِيدٌ

Surely this is a Glorious Qur'an,

21

فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوظٍۭ

inscribed on an Imperishable Tablet.
