حَدَّثَنِى يَحْيَى بْنُ مَعِينٍ حَدَّثَنَا غُنْدَرٌ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ح وَحَدَّثَنِيهِ بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ - يَعْنِى ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ - عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ عَنْ أَبِى وَائِلٍ عَنْ أَبِى مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ أُمِرْنَا بِالصَّدَقَةِ. قَالَ كُنَّا نُحَامِلُ - قَالَ - فَتَصَدَّقَ أَبُو عَقِيلٍ بِنِصْفِ صَاعٍ - قَالَ - وَجَاءَ إِنْسَانٌ بِشَىْءٍ أَكْثَرَ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَنِىٌّ عَنْ صَدَقَةِ هَذَا وَمَا فَعَلَ هَذَا الآخَرُ إِلاَّ رِيَاءً فَنَزَلَتْ ( الَّذِينَ يَلْمِزُونَ الْمُطَّوِّعِينَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِى الصَّدَقَاتِ وَالَّذِينَ لاَ يَجِدُونَ إِلاَّ جُهْدَهُمْ) وَلَمْ يَلْفِظْ بِشْرٌ بِالْمُطَّوِّعِينَ.
It was narrated that Abu Masud said: “We were commanded to give charity-and we were bearers (who carried goods for payments). Abu Aqil gave half a Sa in charity, and someone brought more than that. The hypocrites said: “Allah has no need of the charity of his man, and the other one only did it to show off”. Then the following verse was revealed: “Those who defame such of believers who give charity voluntarily and such who could not find to give charity except what is available to them””
