Sahih Muslim Book - 13, Hadith - 2504
حَدَّثَنِى حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِى سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ - رضى الله عنهما - قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقُولُ « إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَصُومُوا وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدِرُوا لَهُ ».
It was narrated that Abdullah bin Umar [May Allah pleased with him] said: “I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say: ‘when you see it (the crescent) then fast, and when you see it, then break the fast, and if cloudy then count it.’
