It was narrated that Abdullah bin Maqil said: “I sat with Kab [may Allah be pleased with them] when he was in Masjid, and I asked him about this verse: ‘He must pay a Fidyah (a ransom) of either observing Sawm (fasts) (three days) or giving Sadaqah or offering sacrifice (one sheep) … Kab [may Allah be pleased with them] said: ‘it was revealed concerning me. I had a problem in my scalp and I was brought to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) with the lice crawling on my face. He said: “I did not think that your problem had become as bad as I see it. Can you afford a sheep?” I said: “No.” then this verse was revealed: “…… he must a pay Fidyah (a ransom) of either observing a Sawm (fasts) (three days) or giving a Sadaqah or offering a sacrifice (one sheep). He said: “Fasting for three days, or feeding six poor persons, half a Sa of food for each one.” He said: ‘It was revealed specifically concerning me, but it applies to all of you.’”’’”
