Anas bin Malik said: “Abu Talhah was the wealthiest of the Ansar in Al-Madinah, and the most beloved of his property to him was (a garden called) Bairaha’, which was opposite the Masjid. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) used to enter it and drink of fresh water there.” Anas said: “When this verse – By no means shall you maintain Al Birr…- was revealed, Abu Talha got up and went to the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and said: ‘Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, says in his Book: By no means shall you attain al-Birr[1] …the dearest of my property to me is Bairaha’, and it is charity (that I give for the sake of Allah, hoping that its reward will be stored up with Allah. Dispose of it, O Messenger of Allah, as you wish.’ The Messenger of Allah said: ‘Well done! That is a profitable deal. I have heard what you say, and I think you should share it among your relatives.’ So Abu Talhah divided it among his relatives and cousins.”
