حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِىٍّ الْجَهْضَمِىُّ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ حَدَّثَنَا شَدَّادٌ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « يَا ابْنَ آدَمَ إِنَّكَ أَنْ تَبْذُلَ الْفَضْلَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَأَنْ تُمْسِكَهُ شَرٌّ لَكَ وَلاَ تُلاَمُ عَلَى كَفَافٍ وَابْدَأْ بِمَنْ تَعُولُ وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى ».
Abu Umamah said: “The messenger of Allah (SAW) said: ‘O Son of Adam, spending of your surplus wealth is good for you, and withholding it is bad for you. You will not be blamed if you keep what you need to live on. Start with those who are under your care, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand.’”
