Sahih Muslim Book - 22, Hadith - 4027
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَخْبَرَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ أَبِى سُفْيَانَ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « مَنِ اقْتَنَى كَلْبًا إِلاَّ كَلْبَ ضَارٍ أَوْ مَاشِيَةٍ نَقَصَ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ قِيرَاطَانِ ». قَالَ سَالِمٌ وَكَانَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ « أَوْ كَلْبَ حَرْثٍ ». وَكَانَ صَاحِبَ حَرْثٍ.
It was narrated from Salim, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for hunting or herding livestock, two Qirat will be deducted from his (good) deeds every day." Salim said: And Abu Hurairah used to say, "Or a farm dog," and he owned farmland.
