Sahih Muslim Book - 32, Hadith - 4679

حَدَّثَنِى عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّاقِدُ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ ثَمَانِينَ رَجُلاً مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ هَبَطُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- مِنْ جَبَلِ التَّنْعِيمِ مُتَسَلِّحِينَ يُرِيدُونَ غِرَّةَ النَّبِىِّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- وَأَصْحَابِهِ فَأَخَذَهُمْ سَلَمًا فَاسْتَحْيَاهُمْ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ (وَهُوَ الَّذِى كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ بِبَطْنِ مَكَّةَ مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ أَظْفَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ)

It was narrated from Anas bin Malik that eighty armed men from Makkah swooped down upon the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) from the mountain of At-Tan'im, seeking to attack the Prophet (s.a.w) and his Companions. He captured them but spared their lives. Then Allah revealed (the words): "And He it is Who has withheld their hands from you and your hands from them in the midst of Makkah, after He had made you victors over them."
