Sahih Muslim Book - 44, Hadith - 6425

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى التَّمِيمِيُّ ، أَخْبَرَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، قَالَ: شَهِدَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ لَسَمِعَ أَبَا أُسَيْدٍ الأَنْصَارِيَّ ، يَشْهَدُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ: خَيْرُ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ ، بَنُو النَّجَّارِ ، ثُمَّ بَنُو عَبْدِ الأَشْهَلِ ، ثُمَّ بَنُو الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ، ثُمَّ بَنُو سَاعِدَةَ ، وَفِي كُلِّ دُورِ الأَنْصَارِ خَيْرٌ. قَالَ أَبُو سَلَمَةَ: قَالَ أَبُو أُسَيْدٍ: أُتَّهَمُ أَنَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ لَوْ كُنْتُ كَاذِبًا لَبَدَأْتُ بِقَوْمِي بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ ، وَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ سَعْدَ بْنَ عُبَادَةَ ، فَوَجَدَ فِي نَفْسِهِ ، وَقَالَ خُلِّفْنَا فَكُنَّا آخِرَ الأَرْبَعِ ، أَسْرِجُوا لِي حِمَارِي آتِي رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَلَّمَهُ ابْنُ أَخِيهِ سَهْلٌ ، فَقَالَ: أَتَذْهَبُ لِتَرُدَّ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ؟ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَعْلَمُ ، أَوَلَيْسَ حَسْبُكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ رَابِعَ أَرْبَعٍ ، فَرَجَعَ وَقَالَ: اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ ، وَأَمَرَ بِحِمَارِهِ فَحُلَّ عَنْهُ.

It was narrated that Abu Az-Zinnad said: "Abu Salamah bore witness, that he heard Abu Usaid Al-Ansari bear witness, that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'The best clans of the Ansar are Banu An-Najjar, then Banu 'Abdul-Ashhal, then Banu Al-Harith bin Al-Khazraj, then Banu Sa'idah, and in every clan of the Ansar there is goodness."' Abu Salamah said: "Abu Usaid said: 'Would I tell a lie about the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w)? If I were lying I would have started with my own people, Banu Sa'idah.' News of that reached Sa'd bin 'Ubadah and he was a little upset, and he said: 'We have been left behind, we are the last of the four. Saddle my donkey for me so that I might go to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w).' But his nephew Sahl spoke to him and said: 'Are you going to reject what the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said when the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) knows best? Is it not sufficient for you that you are the fourth of four?' So he changed his mind and said: 'Allah and His Messenger know best,' and he ordered that his donkey be unsaddled."
