Sahih Muslim Book - 5, Hadith - 1522

وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ح وَقَالَ قُتَيْبَةُ حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرٌ - يَعْنِى ابْنَ مُضَرَ - كِلاَهُمَا عَنِ ابْنِ الْهَادِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ وَفِى حَدِيثِ بَكْرٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقُولُ « أَرَأَيْتُمْ لَوْ أَنَّ نَهْرًا بِبَابِ أَحَدِكُمْ يَغْتَسِلُ مِنْهُ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ خَمْسَ مَرَّاتٍ هَلْ يَبْقَى مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَىْءٌ ». قَالُوا لاَ يَبْقَى مِنْ دَرَنِهِ شَىْءٌ. قَالَ « فَذَلِكَ مَثَلُ الصَّلَوَاتِ الْخَمْسِ يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِهِنَّ الْخَطَايَا ».

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said - according to the Hadith of Bakr, he heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) say - "What do you think, if there was a river by the door of one of you and he bathed in it five times a day, would any speck of dirt be left on him?" They said: "Not a speck of dirt would be left on him." He said: "That is the likeness of the five prayers, by means of which Allah erases sins."
