وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ مَالِكِ بْنِ أَنَسٍ فِيمَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِى بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَمْرَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ عَائِشَةَ وَذُكِرَ لَهَا أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ الْحَىِّ. فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لأَبِى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكْذِبْ وَلَكِنَّهُ نَسِىَ أَوْ أَخْطَأَ إِنَّمَا مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- عَلَى يَهُودِيَّةٍ يُبْكَى عَلَيْهَا فَقَالَ « إِنَّهُمْ لَيَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهَا وَإِنَّهَا لَتُعَذَّبُ فِى قَبْرِهَا ».
It was narrated that 'Amrah hint 'Abdur-Rahman said that she heard 'Aishah - when she was told that 'Abdullah bin 'Umar was saying that the deceased is tormented because of the crying of the living - say: "May Allah forgive Abu 'Abdur-Rahman. He did not tell a lie, but he forgot or was mistaken. Rather the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) passed by a Jewish woman for whom they were crying, and he said: 'They are crying for her, but she is being tormented in her grave."'
