Sahih Muslim Book - 11, Hadith - 2221
وَحَدَّثَنِى سُرَيْجُ بْنُ يُونُسَ وَعَلِىُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ - وَهُوَ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ - عَنْ هِشَامٍ الدَّسْتَوَائِىِّ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى - وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ - حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ حَدَّثَنِى أَبِى عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِى كَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِى سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِىِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْجَنَازَةَ فَقُومُوا فَمَنْ تَبِعَهَا فَلاَ يَجْلِسْ حَتَّى تُوضَعَ ».
It was narrated from Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "If you see a funeral then stand up, and whoever follows it, he should not sit down until (the deceased) has been put down."
