وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْحَضْرَمِىُّ عَنْ وُهَيْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « مَثَلُ الْبَخِيلِ وَالْمُتَصَدِّقِ مَثَلُ رَجُلَيْنِ عَلَيْهِمَا جُنَّتَانِ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ إِذَا هَمَّ الْمُتَصَدِّقُ بِصَدَقَةٍ اتَّسَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى تُعَفِّىَ أَثَرَهُ وَإِذَا هَمَّ الْبَخِيلُ بِصَدَقَةٍ تَقَلَّصَتْ عَلَيْهِ وَانْضَمَّتْ يَدَاهُ إِلَى تَرَاقِيهِ وَانْقَبَضَتْ كُلُّ حَلْقَةٍ إِلَى صَاحِبَتِهَا ». قَالَ فَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقُولُ « فَيَجْهَدُ أَنْ يُوَسِّعَهَا فَلاَ يَسْتَطِيعُ ».
It was narrated by Abu Hurairah that the Prophet (SAW) said: ‘The likeness of miser and the charity-giver is that of two men wearing coats of mail. Every time the giver thinks of charity, it expands for him until it erases his footsteps. But when the miser thinks of giving charity, it contracts and presses his hands against his collarbone, and each ring clings to its place.’ He said: And I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) saying: ‘He tries to expand it but he cannot’”
