حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُغِيرَةُ - يَعْنِى الْحِزَامِىَّ - عَنْ أَبِى الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِى هُرَيْرَةَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَالَ « لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ بِهَذَا الطَّوَّافِ الَّذِى يَطُوفُ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَتَرُدُّهُ اللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ وَالتَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ ». قَالُوا فَمَا الْمِسْكِينُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ « الَّذِى لاَ يَجِدُ غِنًى يُغْنِيهِ وَلاَ يُفْطَنُ لَهُ فَيُتَصَدَّقَ عَلَيْهِ وَلاَ يَسْأَلُ النَّاسَ شَيْئًا ».
It was narrated by Abu Hurairah that Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “The poor person is not the one who goes around the people and is given a mouthful or two, or a date or two.” They said: ‘Then who is the poor person, O Messenger of Allah (SAW)?’ He said: ‘The one who cannot find enough to make him independent of means, but the people do not realize that he is in need, so they do not give charity to him, and he does not ask the people for anything.’
