حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحٍ جَمِيعًا عَنِ اللَّيْثِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ - قَالَ ابْنُ رُمْحٍ أَخْبَرَنَا اللَّيْثُ - عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِى حَبِيبٍ أَنَّ عِرَاكًا أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عُرْوَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ قُرَيْشًا كَانَتْ تَصُومُ عَاشُورَاءَ فِى الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ ثُمَّ أَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- بِصِيَامِهِ حَتَّى فُرِضَ رَمَضَانُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « مَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُفْطِرْهُ ».
Urwah narrated that Aishah told him that the Quraish used to fast Ashura during the Jahiliyyah, then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) was commanded to fast it, until (fasting during) Ramadan was enjoined. Then the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: “Whoever wishes let him fast it, and whoever wishes, let him not fast.”
"When a person dies, his works end, except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him."

"The best of what a man leaves behind are three: a righteous child who supplicates for him, ongoing charity the reward of which reaches him, and knowledge that is acted upon after him."

"Every day two angels come down from Heaven and one of them says, 'O Allah! Compensate every person who spends in Your Cause,' and the other (angel) says, 'O Allah! Destroy every miser.'"
