وَحَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو النَّاقِدُ وَابْنُ أَبِى عُمَرَ - وَاللَّفْظُ لِعَمْرٍو - حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أَبِى سَلَمَةَ قَالَتْ لَمَّا أَتَى أُمَّ حَبِيبَةَ نَعِىُّ أَبِى سُفْيَانَ دَعَتْ فِى الْيَوْمِ الثَّالِثِ بِصُفْرَةٍ فَمَسَحَتْ بِهِ ذِرَاعَيْهَا وَعَارِضَيْهَا وَقَالَتْ كُنْتُ عَنْ هَذَا غَنِيَّةً سَمِعْتُ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقُولُ « لاَ يَحِلُّ لاِمْرَأَةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ أَنْ تُحِدَّ فَوْقَ ثَلاَثٍ إِلاَّ عَلَى زَوْجٍ فَإِنَّهَا تُحِدُّ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا ».
It was narrated that Zainab bint Abi Salamah said: "When news of the death of Abu Sufyan came to Umm Habibah, on the third day she called for some yellowish perfume and wiped some of it on her forearms and cheeks, and said: 'I have no need of this, but I heard the Prophet (s.a.w) say: It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day, to mourn for more than three days, except for a husband, for whom she should mourn for four months and ten days."'
