Sahih Muslim Book - 21, Hadith - 3883

وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رُمْحِ بْنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنِى زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- رَخَّصَ فِى بَيْعِ الْعَرِيَّةِ بِخَرْصِهَا تَمْرًا. قَالَ يَحْيَى الْعَرِيَّةُ أَنْ يَشْتَرِىَ الرَّجُلُ ثَمَرَ النَّخَلاَتِ لِطَعَامِ أَهْلِهِ رُطَبًا بِخَرْصِهَا تَمْرًا.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Umar: "Zaid bin Thabit told me that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) granted a concession allowing the sale of 'Araya for a similar measure of dried dates." Yahya said: "'Araya is when a man buys the produce of date palms so that he can give his family fresh dates to eat, in return for an estimated measure of dried dates."
