حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَدِىَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ وَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ يَسْأَلُهُ مِائَةَ دِرْهَمٍ. فَقَالَ تَسْأَلُنِى مِائَةَ دِرْهَمٍ وَأَنَا ابْنُ حَاتِمٍ وَاللَّهِ لاَ أُعْطِيكَ. ثُمَّ قَالَ لَوْلاَ أَنِّى سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يَقُولُ « مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ ثُمَّ رَأَى خَيْرًا مِنْهَا فَلْيَأْتِ الَّذِى هُوَ خَيْرٌ ».
It was narrated that Tamim bin Tarafah said: "I heard 'Adiyy bin Hatim say, when a man came to him asking him for a hundred Dirham: 'Are you asking me for a hundred Dirham when I am the son of Hatim? By Allah, I will not give it to you.' Then he said: 'Were it not that I heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) say: "Whoever swears an oath, then sees somethi11g better than it, let him do that which is better.''
