Sahih Muslim Book - 39, Hadith - 5679

وَحَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَعَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ ، وَتَقَارَبَا فِي اللَّفْظِ ، قَالاَ : أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ ، عَنْ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتِ حُيَيٍّ ، قَالَتْ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُعْتَكِفًا ، فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَزُورُهُ لَيْلاً ، فَحَدَّثْتُهُ ، ثُمَّ قُمْتُ لأَنْقَلِبَ ، فَقَامَ مَعِيَ لِيَقْلِبَنِي ، وَكَانَ مَسْكَنُهَا فِي دَارِ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، فَمَرَّ رَجُلاَنِ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، فَلَمَّا رَأَيَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَسْرَعَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : عَلَى رِسْلِكُمَا ، إِنَّهَا صَفِيَّةُ بِنْتُ حُيَيٍّ فَقَالاَ : سُبْحَانَ اللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، قَالَ : إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ يَجْرِي مِنَ الإِنْسَانِ مَجْرَى الدَّمِ ، وَإِنِّي خَشِيتُ أَنْ يَقْذِفَ فِي قُلُوبِكُمَا شَرًّا ، أَوْ قَالَ شَيْئًا.

It was narrated from ‘Ali bin Husain that Safiyyah bint Huyayy said: “The Prophet (s.a.w) was observing I’tikaf and I came to visit home one night. I spoke to him, then I got up to go back, and he got up with me to send me back.’ Her home was in house of Usamah bin Zaid. Two men of the Ansar passed by, and when they saw the Prophet (s.a.w), they hurried up. The Prophet (s.a.w) said: “Wait; this is Safiyyah bint Huyayy.’ They said: “Subhan-Allah, O Messenger of Allah!” He said: “The Shaitan flows through man like blood, and I was afraid that he might instil some evil (or something) in your hearts.”
