Sahih Muslim Book - 47, Hadith - 6781
حَدَّثَنِي سُوَيْدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ مَيْسَرَةَ ، حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: لَتَتَّبِعُنَّ سَنَنَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ ، شِبْرًا بِشِبْرٍ وَذِرَاعًا بِذِرَاعٍ ، حَتَّى لَوْ دَخَلُوا فِي جُحْرِ ضَبٍّ لاَتَّبَعْتُمُوهُمْ قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، آلْيَهُودَ وَالنَّصَارَى ؟ قَالَ: فَمَنْ ؟.
It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'You will certainly follow the ways (and halaits) of those who came before you, handspan by handspan, cubit by cubit, until even if they entered a lizard's hole, you would follow them.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the Jews and the Christians?' He said: 'Who else?"'
