حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْفَزَارِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي يَعْفُورٍ، عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ الْعَيْزَارِ، عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا، قَالَ لِابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ: أَيُّ الْعَمَلِ أَفْضَلُ ؟ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَنْهُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى مَوَاقِيتِهَا ، قُلْتُ: وَمَاذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ: وَبِرُّ الْوَالِدَيْنِ ، قُلْتُ: وَمَاذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ: وَالْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى: وَهَذَا حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، وَقَدْ رَوَى الْمَسْعُودِيُّ، وَشُعْبَةُ، وَسُلَيْمَانُ هُوَ أَبُو إِسْحَاق الشَّيْبَانِيُّ وَغَيْرُ وَاحِدٍ، عَنْ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ الْعَيْزَارِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ.
Abu Amr Ash-Shaibani narrated: A man said to Ibn Mas'ud: 'Which deed is most virtuous?' He said: 'I asked Allah's Messenger (that). He said: Salat at the beginning of its time. I asked him: What is after that O Messenger of Allah? He said: Being dutiful to one's parents. I said: What is after that [O Messenger of Allah]? He said: Jihad in the Way of Allah.
"When a person dies, his works end, except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him."

"The best of what a man leaves behind are three: a righteous child who supplicates for him, ongoing charity the reward of which reaches him, and knowledge that is acted upon after him."

"Every day two angels come down from Heaven and one of them says, 'O Allah! Compensate every person who spends in Your Cause,' and the other (angel) says, 'O Allah! Destroy every miser.'"
