Tirmidhi Book 2, Hadith 407
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ الْجُهَنِيُّ، عَنْ عَمِّهِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: عَلِّمُوا الصَّبِيَّ الصَّلَاةَ ابْنَ سَبْعِ سِنِينَ وَاضْرِبُوهُ عَلَيْهَا ابْنَ عَشْرٍ قَالَ: وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍوَ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى: حَدِيثُ سَبْرَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، وَعَلَيْهِ الْعَمَلُ عِنْدَ بَعْضِ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ، وَبِهِ يَقُولُ أَحْمَدُ، وَإِسْحَاق، وَقَالَا: مَا تَرَكَ الْغُلَامُ بَعْدَ الْعَشْرِ مِنَ الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّهُ يُعِيدُ، قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى: وَسَبْرَةُ هُوَ ابْنُ مَعْبَدٍ الْجُهَنِيُّ، وَيُقَالُ هُوَ: ابْنُ عَوْسَجَةَ.
(Sabrah bin Ma'bad al-Juhni) narrated that: Allah's Messenger (S) said: Teach the boy Salat when he is seven years old, and beat him (if he does not pray) when he is ten.
