Tirmidhi Book 47, Hadith 3268
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِسْحَاق الْجَوْهَرِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ صَاحِبُ الْهَرَوِيِّ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ، قَال: سَمِعْتُ الشَّعْبِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ، عَنْ أَبِي جَبِيرَةَ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ، قَالَ: كَانَ الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا يَكُونَ لَهُ الِاسْمَيْنِ وَالثَّلَاثَةُ فَيُدْعَى بِبَعْضِهَا، فَعَسَى أَنْ يَكْرَهَ، قَالَ: فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: وَلا تَنَابَزُوا بِالأَلْقَابِ سورة الحجرات آية 11 . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى: هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، أَبُو جَبِيرَةَ هُوَ أَخُو ثَابِتِ بْنِ الضَّحَّاكِ بْنِ خَلِيفَةَ أَنْصَارِيٌّ، وَأَبُو زَيْدٍ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ صَاحِبُ الْهَرَوِيِّ بَصْرِيٌّ ثِقَةٌ.
Narrated Abu Jubairah bin Ad-Dahhak: A man among us would be known by two or three names. He would be called by one that perhaps he disliked, so this Ayah was revealed: Nor insult with nicknames (49:11).
