Dates—and especially the Ajwa variety—are highlighted in Prophetic medicine for their spiritual protection and nutritional benefits. Modern pharmacological research supports many of these benefits: Ajwa date extracts have shown antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic and hypolipidemic effects, beneficial effects on lipid profile, liver and kidney protection, and rich micronutrient content. While the exact protection against poison or magic cannot be scientifically validated in the same terms, the biological benefits provide a plausible basis for the traditional recommendation.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'Whoever eats seven Ajwa dates in the morning, neither magic nor poison will harm him that day.' He also used to break his fast with fresh dates before praying.
"When a person dies, his works end, except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for him."
Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)
"The best of what a man leaves behind are three: a righteous child who supplicates for him, ongoing charity the reward of which reaches him, and knowledge that is acted upon after him."
Sunan Ibn Mājah
"Every day two angels come down from Heaven and one of them says, 'O Allah! Compensate every person who spends in Your Cause,' and the other (angel) says, 'O Allah! Destroy every miser.'"
Sahih Bukhari
