وَٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَوٰةِ فَـٰعِلُونَ Qur’an Al-Muminun (23:4)Wa a lla th eena hum li l zzak a ti f a AAiloon a
Lit., "working for" or "active in behalf of [inner] purity", which is the meaning of zakah in this context (Zamakhshari; the same interpretation has been advanced by Abu Muslim).
Zakâh means purification and growth. Paying alms-tax and charity are forms of purifying one’s wealth.
