وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Wam a tujzawna ill a m a kuntum taAAmaloon a
although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do.

and this reward is nothing except what you had done.

Justice demands that those who sow evil should reap the fruit, but the punishment is due to their own conduct and not to anything external to themselves.
