كَانُوا۟ لَا يَتَنَاهَوْنَ عَن مُّنكَرٍ فَعَلُوهُ ۚ لَبِئْسَ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ
K a noo l a yatan a hawna AAan munkarin faAAaloohu labisa m a k a noo yafAAaloon a
They would not prevent one another from doing whatever hateful things they did: vile indeed was what they were wont to do!

They would not forbid one another from committing iniquities; evil indeed were their deeds.

They did not forbid one another from doing evil. Evil indeed was what they did!

There are bad men in every community, but if leaders connive at the misdeeds of the commonalty,-and even worse, if leaders themsevles share in the misdeeds, as happened with the Pharisees and Scribes against whom Jesus spoke out, then that community is doomed.
