Say: "Behold, I take my stand on a clear evidence from my Sustainer - and [so] it is to Him that you are giving the lie! Not in my power is that which [in your ignorance] you so hastily demand:47 judgment rests with none but God. He shall declare the truth, since it is He who is the best judge between truth and falsehood."
  - Mohammad Asad

Lit., "not with me is that which you would hasten": a reference to the sarcastic demand of the unbelievers, mentioned in 8:32 , that God should chastise them forthwith in proof of the Prophet's claim to be His message-bearer.

Say: "I am on a clear proof from my Rabb which you have denied, but the scourge of Allah, which you are in such a rush to see is not in my power. No one has the authority of passing judgement except Allah: He declares the truth and He is the best of Judges."
  - Muhammad Farooq-i-Azam Malik
Say, 'O Prophet,' 'Indeed, I stand on a clear proof from my Lord- yet you have denied it. That 'torment' you seek to hasten is not within my power. It is only Allah Who decides 'its time'. He declares the truth. And He is the Best of Judges.'
  - Mustafa Khattab
Say: I am (relying) on clear proof from my Lord, while ye deny Him. I have not that for which ye are impatient. The decision is for Allah only. He telleth the truth and He is the Best of Deciders.
  - Marmaduke Pickthall
Say: "For me I (work) on a clear Sign from my Lord but ye reject Him. What ye would see hastened is not in my power. The Command rests with none but Allah: He declares the truth and He is the best of Judges." 877
  - Abdullah Yusuf Ali

What ye would see hastened: what ye, deniers of God, are so impatient about: the punishment which ye mockingly say does not come to you. Cf. xiii. 6.
