It was narrated form Salim bin Abdullah from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) used to give things to Umar bin Al- Khattab (May Allah pleased with him), and Umar would say to him: ‘O Messenger of Allah (SAW), give it to one who is more in need than me.’ The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to him: ‘Take it, and keep it, or give it in charity.’ Whatever comes to you of this wealth when you are not hoping for it or asking for it, take it, otherwise do not hanker after it.’ Salim said: ‘Because of that, Ibn Umar did not ask anyone for anything, and he did not refuse anything that was given to him.’
