حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِى شَيْبَةَ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَإِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَنْظَلِىُّ قَالَ إِسْحَاقُ أَخْبَرَنَا وَقَالَ الآخَرَانِ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنِ الأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِى وَائِلٍ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ قَالَ قَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رضى الله عنه قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- قَسْمًا فَقُلْتُ وَاللَّهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَغَيْرُ هَؤُلاَءِ كَانَ أَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنْهُمْ. قَالَ « إِنَّهُمْ خَيَّرُونِى أَنْ يَسْأَلُونِى بِالْفُحْشِ أَوْ يُبَخِّلُونِى فَلَسْتُ بِبَاخِلٍ ».
It was narrated from that Salman bin Rabiah said: “Umar bin Al- Khattab (May Allah pleased with him) said: ‘The Messenger of Allah (SAW) shared out (some wealth) and I said: ‘By Allah, O Messenger of Allah (SAW), others deserved to have it more than these people.’ He said: ‘They gave me the choice of having them ask importunately or regard me as a miser, and I am not a miser.’’”
