It was narrated that Anas said: "The Prophet (s.a.w) had nine wives, and when he divided his time among them, he did not come back to the first one until the ninth day. Every night they used to gather in the house of the one whose night it was. He was in 'Aishah's house, and Zainab came and he reached out his hand towards her. 'Aishah said: 'This is Zainab, and the Prophet (s.a.w) withdrew his hand.' They argued and raised their voices, and the Iqamah was called for prayer. Abu Bakr came past at that point and heard their voices, so he said: 'Come out for the prayer, O Messenger of Allah (s.a.w), and throw dust in their mouths.' The Prophet (s.a.w) came out, and 'Aishah said: 'Now the Prophet (s.a.w) will finish his prayer and come, and Abu Bakr will come and do such-and-such to me.' When the Prophet (s.a.w) had finished his prayer, Abu Bakr came to her and spoke sternly to her, and said: 'Do you behave like this?"'
