Sahih Muslim Book - 21, Hadith - 3918
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا هِقْلٌ - يَعْنِى ابْنَ زِيَادٍ - عَنِ الأَوْزَاعِىِّ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ كَانَ لِرِجَالٍ فُضُولُ أَرَضِينَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- « مَنْ كَانَتْ لَهُ فَضْلُ أَرْضٍ فَلْيَزْرَعْهَا أَوْ لِيَمْنَحْهَا أَخَاهُ فَإِنْ أَبَى فَلْيُمْسِكْ أَرْضَهُ ».
It was narrated that Jabir bin 'Abdullah said: "One of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) had some surplus land, and the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'Whoever has surplus land, let him cultivate it or lend it to his brother, but if he insists, let him keep his land."'
