Sahih Muslim Book - 21, Hadith - 3958

وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِى عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو وَابْنُ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ طَاوُسٍ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُخَابِرُ قَالَ عَمْرٌو فَقُلْتُ لَهُ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ لَوْ تَرَكْتَ هَذِهِ الْمُخَابَرَةَ فَإِنَّهُمْ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- نَهَى عَنِ الْمُخَابَرَةِ. فَقَالَ أَىْ عَمْرُو أَخْبَرَنِى أَعْلَمُهُمْ بِذَلِكَ يَعْنِى ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- لَمْ يَنْهَ عَنْهَا إِنَّمَا قَالَ « يَمْنَحُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ خَيْرٌ لَهُ مِنْ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ عَلَيْهَا خَرْجًا مَعْلُومًا ».

It was narrated from Tawus that he used to rent out .(Yakhabir) his land. 'Amr said: "I said to him: 'O Abu 'Abdur-Rahman, why don't you stop this renting, for they are saying that the Prophet (s.a.w) forbade renting out land?' He said: 'O 'Amr, the most knowledgeable of them of that' - meaning Ibn 'Abbas - 'told me that the Prophet (s.a.w) did not forbid it, rather he said: For one of you to lend his land to his brother is better for him than renting it out for a specified amount."
