حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَنْبَرِىُّ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِى حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ حَبِيبٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا الْمِنْهَالِ يَقُولُ سَأَلْتُ الْبَرَاءَ بْنَ عَازِبٍ عَنِ الصَّرْفِ فَقَالَ سَلْ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ فَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ. فَسَأَلْتُ زَيْدًا فَقَالَ سَلِ الْبَرَاءَ فَإِنَّهُ أَعْلَمُ ثُمَّ قَالاَ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- عَنْ بَيْعِ الْوَرِقِ بِالذَّهَبِ دَيْنًا
It was narrated from Habib that he head Abu Al-Minhal say: "I asked Al-Bara' bin 'Azib about exchanging (gold for silver or vice versa) and he said: 'Ask Zaid bin Arqam, for he is more knowledgeable.' I asked Zaid and he said: 'Ask Al-Bara', for he is more knowledgeable.' Then they said: 'The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) forbade selling silver for gold to be paid at a later date."'
