Sahih Muslim Book - 37, Hadith - 5404

وحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ ، وَحَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، وَاللَّفْظُ لِحَرْمَلَةَ ، قَالاَ : أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ، أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، حَدَّثَنِي سَالِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، قَالَ : وَجَدَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ حُلَّةً مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ تُبَاعُ بِالسُّوقِ ، فَأَخَذَهَا ، فَأَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، ابْتَعْ هَذِهِ فَتَجَمَّلْ بِهَا لِلْعِيدِ ، وَلِلْوَفْدِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ ، قَالَ : فَلَبِثَ عُمَرُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجُبَّةِ دِيبَاجٍ ، فَأَقْبَلَ بِهَا عُمَرُ حَتَّى أَتَى بِهَا رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ، قُلْتَ : إِنَّمَا هَذِهِ لِبَاسُ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ ، أَوْ إِنَّمَا يَلْبَسُ هَذِهِ مَنْ لاَ خَلاَقَ لَهُ ، ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيَّ بِهَذِهِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : تَبِيعُهَا وَتُصِيبُ بِهَا حَاجَتَكَ.

'Abdullah bin 'Umar said: "Umar bin Al-Khattab found a Hullah of Istabraq being offered for sale in the market, so he took it and brought it to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, buy this and adorn yourself with it for 'Eid and for the delegations.' The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: 'This is only a garment for the one who has no share in the Hereafter.' As much time passed as Allah willed, then the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) sent to 'Umar a garment made of Dibaj. 'Umar brought it to the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you said: "This is only a garment for the one who has no share in the Hereafter," then you sent this to me?' The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said to him: 'Sell it and meet your needs with it.'"
