حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِى عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنِى حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِى يُونُسُ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ كُلُّهُمْ عَنِ الزُّهْرِىِّ. بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ مَالِكٍ غَيْرَ أَنَّ فِى حَدِيثِ مَعْمَرٍ « إِنَّمَا عُذِّبَ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ ».
It was narrated from Humaid bin 'Abdur-Rahman bin 'Awf that he heard Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan, during the season of Hajj, say when he was on the Minbar, and he held up a hair piece that he took from his guard's hand: "O people of Al-Madinah, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) forbid such as this, and he said: 'The Children of Israel were doomed when their women adopted such things."'
