حَدَّثَنِى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنِى عَبْدُ الأَعْلَى حَدَّثَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنْ عَامِرٍ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ -صلى الله عليه وسلم- يُكْثِرُ مِنْ قَوْلِ « سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ ». قَالَتْ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَرَاكَ تُكْثِرُ مِنْ قَوْلِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ. فَقَالَ « خَبَّرَنِى رَبِّى أَنِّى سَأَرَى عَلاَمَةً فِى أُمَّتِى فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُهَا أَكْثَرْتُ مِنْ قَوْلِ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَبِحَمْدِهِ أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ. فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهَا (إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ) فَتْحُ مَكَّةَ ( وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِى دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا) ».
It was narrated that 'Aishah said: "The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) often used to say: 'Subhan Allah, wa bihamdih. Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilaih (Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah for forgiveness and I repent to Him.)' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, why do I see you often saying: "Subhan Allah, wa bihamdih. Astaghfirullah wa atabu ilaih (Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah for forgiveness and I repent to Him)?' He said: 'My Lord told me that I would see a sign in my Ummah, and that when I saw it, I was to say often "Subhan Allah, wa bihamdih. Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilaih (Glory and praise be to Allah. I ask Allah for forgiveness and I repent to Him.)" And I have seen it: When there comes the Help of Allah and the Conquest" - the conquest of Makkah - '"And you see that the people enter Allah's religion (Islam) in crowds. So glorify the Praises of your Lord, and ask His forgiveness. Verily, He is the One Who accepts the repentance and Who forgives..."'
