Sahih Muslim Book - 4, Hadith - 935

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ عَنْ حَيْوَةَ أَنَّ أَبَا يُونُسَ مَوْلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِمَامُ لِيُؤْتَمَّ بِهِ فَإِذَا كَبَّرَ فَكَبِّرُوا وَإِذَا رَكَعَ فَارْكَعُوا وَإِذَا قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ فَقُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّنَا لَكَ الْحَمْدُ وَإِذَا صَلَّى قَائِمًا فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا وَإِذَا صَلَّى قَاعِدًا فَصَلَّوْا قُعُودًا أَجْمَعُونَ

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "The Imam is appointed to be followed, so when he says the Takbir, then say the Takbir; when he bows, then bow; when he says: 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah,' then say: 'Allahumma Rabbana lakal-hamd.' If he is praying standing, then pray standing, and if he is praying sitting, then you should all pray sitting."
